Helping you to prevent falls

Helping you to prevent falls

All patients are assessed for risk of falls. Based on your falls risk, your care team will add individualized interventions to your care plan. For instance, you may be asked to wear a yellow arm band or a yellow "falling figure" graphic may be added to your chart. These interventions alert your care team that you may be at risk of falling.

We want you to be safe during your visit. Please let us know if you:

  • Have fallen recently
  • Have difficulty with balance or walking
  • Are worried that you might fall during your visit

At St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital, we take a proactive approach to reducing the risk of falls through education, standardized tools, and daily safety practices. Our teams use universal fall precautions, conduct regular bedside safety checks and hourly rounding, and encourage safe movement through our Movement Matters initiative. We also provide fall prevention kits, review medications for potential risks, and hold post-fall debriefs to learn and improve. Together, these steps help ensure a safe environment for every patient, every day.
