Critical Care Outreach Team

A Critical Care Outreach Team (CCOT) is a multidisciplinary team who bring critical care support and expertise beyond the walls of the ICU to high-risk patients on medical units. It is essentially a mobile ICU.

If a patient’s condition is rapidly worsening, the nurse on the floor can call CCOT for guidance and support. The CCOT will work in partnership with teams on the units to identify, assess and respond to the needs of seriously ill patients.

The CCOT at STEGH is a nurse-lead model. This means the team is made up of nursing staff, respiratory therapists, and ICU physician. The overall goal is to work with teams to recognize early signs of clinical deterioration, intervene quickly, and provide ongoing education and support to clinical staff.
