Mental Health

One in five Canadians will experience mental health challenges. We are here to help.

Mental Health

St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital provides a safe, supportive environment for adults seeking mental health care. Our program is located on the third floor of the North Building and includes space for both inpatient services and weekday outpatient programs.

We offer private rooms, dedicated therapeutic areas, and shared spaces such as an outdoor courtyard, dining room and lounges designed to promote comfort and recovery. Our team provides assessment, treatment planning and short-term support for adults 18 and older who may be experiencing a mental health crisis or a decline in their well-being.

Short-term hospitalization can be an important step in stabilizing symptoms, managing medications, addressing safety concerns or offering a brief period of structured support. Mental health needs are common - one in five Canadians will face a challenge in their lifetime - and seeking help is an important part of recovery.

Safety and Prohibited Items

Creating a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff is essential. For this reason, certain items are not permitted in the hospital, including alcohol, weapons, glass items, illegal substances and anything that could pose a fire hazard. If you arrive with a restricted item, please leave it in your vehicle or let a staff member know.

Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and healing space for everyone.
