Three new COVID, Cold and Flu Care Clinics Open in Elgin County

Published On: January 17, 2023

Partners of the Elgin Ontario Health Team (OHT) today announced the opening of three new COVID, Cold and Flu Care Clinics. These new medical clinics test, assess, and provide treatment for people with COVID-19 and other cold and flu-like illnesses.

“With high numbers of respiratory illnesses circulating in our region, we know this cold and flu season has been very challenging for many local residents,” said Deanna Huggett, Executive Director, Elgin OHT. “The establishment of these clinics is the result of several of our Elgin health care partners working together to provide alternative accessible care options for residents experiencing respiratory illness.”

“St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital is pleased to collaborate with community partners to establish COVID, Cold and Flu Care Clinics in our community. We are hopeful the clinics will ease some of the pressure in our Emergency Department where we are seeing unprecedented volumes,” added Monica Olanski, Vice President, Patient Services & Chief Information Officer.

Elgin residents are encouraged to contact their primary care provider (family doctor or nurse practitioner) first before booking an appointment at a COVID, Cold and Flu Care Clinic. Your primary care provider will give you advice about what to do next. This advice may include caring for yourself or your child at home, seeing your primary care provider either virtually or in person or going to a COVID, Cold and Flu Care Clinic.

If you do not have a primary care provider, you may consider contacting Health Care Connect to get immediate advice from a nurse at any time of the day by calling 811 or through an online chat. In the event your symptoms are not improving and/or getting worse, please consider calling the COVID, Cold, and Flu Care Clinic to book an appointment.

If you or your child develop severe symptoms, you should call 9-1-1 or go to the Emergency Department.

All appointments for the COVID, Cold and Flu Care Clinics must be pre-booked by calling 519-631-2030 ext. 6210. These are not walk-in clinics.
