Staff from across St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital (STEGH) recently came together for the organization’s annual Skills Fair, a highly anticipated event that combines education, engagement, and hands-on learning.
Launched on October 22, this year’s fair welcomed clinical and non-clinical team members from across the hospital to refresh and validate mandatory annual competencies while exploring opportunities to learn something new.
Centered around the theme “Don’t Be Afraid to Try Something New,” the event featured interactive learning stations, hands-on skill demonstrations, daily challenges, vendor exhibits, and team-building activities. Participants rotated through booths hosted by departments across the organization, reviewing skills related to infection prevention and control, personal protective equipment (PPE), emergency and critical response, patient care, workplace safety, and other key areas that support high-quality care.
“The Skills Fair is one of the most anticipated staff events of the year because it brings learning to life,” said Debbie Turner, Director, Quality and Professional Practice at STEGH. “Our staff have the opportunity to refresh essential skills, learn from colleagues across the hospital, and build confidence in a fun, interactive environment. This investment in learning helps ensure we continue to provide safe, quality care for our patients and families.”
Turner also recognized the efforts of the Clinical Education Team, which plans and delivers the event each year. “Our Clinical Education Team consistently knocks it out of the park,” she added. “They dedicate countless hours to designing engaging learning opportunities and creating an experience that staff look forward to. Their creativity and passion are what make the Skills Fair such a success each year.”
The Skills Fair has become an anticipated tradition at STEGH, bringing staff together each year to learn, connect, and grow.
St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital extends sincere appreciation to the Clinical Education Team for their leadership and innovation in delivering another successful Skills Fair.
