The Laboratory at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital (STEGH) plays a vital role in supporting patient care by delivering accurate, timely, and high-quality diagnostic testing. With a strong commitment to people-centred care and client satisfaction, we prioritize open communication, accessibility, and responsiveness to the needs of our patients, care providers, and community.

Located in the basement of the North Tower and operating 24/7, our lab is home to a skilled team of more than 40 professionals - including medical laboratory technologists, laboratory assistants, clerical staff, pathology assistants, and pathologists. Together, they perform hundreds of tests each day across a wide range of areas including hematology, chemistry, transfusion medicine, point-of-care testing, and pathology.

In addition to supporting all departments across the hospital, we collaborate closely with regional partners to share expertise, promote best practices, and continuously improve quality and safety. The STEGH Laboratory is fully licensed by the Ministry of Health and proudly accredited by Accreditation Canada Diagnostics, reflecting our dedication to continuous improvement, STEGH values, and exceptional patient service.
