Planning for Chemotherapy

How should I plan for chemotherapy?

There are steps you can take before treatment begins to help you cope.

Prepare for side effects. The team in our Chemotherapy unit will provide information about potential side effects and how you can manage them at home.

Make a caregiving plan. People receiving chemotherapy may need extra help during treatment with transportation, household chores, and other tasks. Family and friends can provide valuable support during this time. Ask your team what type of caregiving at home you may need during and after treatment.

Get help at work. As you learn about your treatment schedule and side effects, you may be concerned about how this could affect your work schedule. Talk with your employer about adjustments to your work schedule or other arrangements during treatment.

What to bring to your appointment 

Please bring the following to your appointment:

  • Health card
  • A list of all the medications you take, including over-the-counter drugs and natural supplements. We need this information to update your medication profile in your health record
  • A mobile phone or tablet (STEGH offers free WiFi), a book or other reading materials
  • Wear comfortable clothing as you will be seated for a period of time
