Published On: May 29, 2025

St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital (STEGH) announced the commencement of a major upgrade to the East Parking Lot, which began Monday, June 2. This much-needed project will improve accessibility, enhance safety, and optimize traffic flow, providing long-term benefits for both patients and staff.

Project Overview:

The East Parking Lot repaving project will take place in three phases and is expected to be completed by the end of August. The upgrades include:

  • Improved accessibility parking and sidewalks
  • Better traffic flow and the addition of parking spots through changes in lot orientation
  • Enhanced lighting for increased safety

This significant renovation will ensure STEGH continues to meet the growing needs of our community while improving the overall experience for those who use our facility.

Minimizing Impact:

STEGH is committed to minimizing the disruption caused by this project. We are working closely with the community to ensure emergency services and hospital access remain uninterrupted. We are also taking steps to reduce traffic congestion during peak hours.

Long-Term Benefits:

Once complete, the East Parking Lot will feature better flow, safer walkways, more parking spaces, and enhanced lighting. These upgrades are an important part of STEGH’s ongoing commitment to improving the patient and visitor experience, and we thank the community for its patience and understanding during the construction period.

“We are thrilled to embark on this important upgrade,” said Dan Neaves, Director of Facilities Management. “While there may be some temporary inconvenience, the long-term benefits of this project will be felt by everyone who uses the lot, and we are excited to continue improving the STEGH experience for our patients, staff, and community members.”
