(St. Thomas, ON) Robert Biron, President and CEO at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital (STEGH) announced today that he will be retiring in June.
“It’s been an honour and a privilege to serve the St. Thomas and Elgin community,” says Biron. STEGH is fortunate to have such a remarkable team who place the care and safety of our patients above all else. The hospital is well positioned for the future and I wish the team continued success.”
Biron has served as President and CEO of the hospital since 2018. In that time, he spearheaded the development of a new multi-year strategic plan and clinical services plan, which position STEGH for opportunities to improve health services in the community. Other achievements include supporting the Board of Directors to modernize its governance model and renewing emphasis on patient engagement and Lean quality improvement – of which STEGH is known as a leader in the province. In partnership with other health care providers across the region, Biron helped to support the development of the Elgin Ontario Health Team, with a goal of organizing and delivering care that is more connected to patients in their local communities. Under Biron’s leadership, STEGH achieved Accreditation with Exemplary Status – the highest rating a health care organization in Canada can receive.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, Peter van der Westen, Chair, extends his congratulations to Mr. Biron for his achievements during his time with STEGH: “I congratulate Robert on his pending retirement and for his lasting and ongoing contribution, and wish him all the best for the next chapter of his life.”
To ensure a seamless transition, the Board of Directors will immediately begin the recruitment process for a new President and CEO.
Biron’s last day will be Friday, June 4, 2021.
