Meet Derek. Derek was the first patient to test positive for COVID-19 in Elgin County and was the first COVID-19 patient at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital.
He spent a total of 48 days in hospital, 24 of which were in a coma on a ventilator.
On Sunday, May 10 (Mother’s Day), Derek and his family celebrated his return home.
