The recent outbreak of COVID-19 at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital (STEGH) has been declared over by Southwestern Public Health. The outbreak had been declared on the 5th floor Acute Medicine Unit on January 7, 2022 after three (3) patients tested positive for the virus.

Upon declaring the outbreak, STEGH immediately introduced precautions, including enhanced cleaning as well as contact tracing, to protect the health of patients and staff.

This was the first outbreak of the virus at STEGH since the pandemic began.

“There are no words to appropriately express my gratitude to our teams for their sacrifice over the last 22 months,” says Karen Davies, President and CEO. “Their compassion and perseverance is remarkable as they continue to work tirelessly to care for our community.”
