Welcome to the Sterile Compounding Room. In this specialized area, our technicians meticulously prepare non-chemotherapy sterile medications, ensuring the highest standards of safety and accuracy.

Medications are carefully added to a base solution, as shown here, and then delivered to the patient care units for administration to patients.

Ashlan is responsible for overseeing sterile compounding, ensuring that our pharmacy team adheres to established standards and consistently performs their duties to these standards. Her leadership ensures the highest level of quality and safety in our sterile medication preparation processes.

In the Chemotherapy Sterile Compounding Room, our technicians carefully assemble the necessary materials on trays for each individual prescription. Completing one patient prescription at a time is key for safe medication management. The chemotherapy pharmacist provides the go ahead to the compounding technicians to make each patient’s chemotherapy after all checks and balances are in place.

Once approved, the technicians proceed with the compounding of chemotherapy sterile medications, following strict protocols to ensure safety and accuracy. These medications are then placed in specialized closed totes for immediate delivery to the Chemotherapy Unit, ensuring timely and safe administration to patients.

This is the Narcotics and Controlled Medication Room, a highly secure space with a rigorous inventory system in place. Our team tracks the stock to ensure they are always aware of what is on hand, what has been prescribed, administered, and wasted, to maintain the highest levels of control and accountability.

Sandi interviews patients upon admission to gather a comprehensive list of their home medications. She collaborates closely with community pharmacies, retrieving patient medication lists, to ensure a complete and accurate medication history for each patient. Sandi then enters every home medication into the patient’s chart in preparation for the most responsible physician to reconcile for admission. Recording home medications typically takes 20-30 minutes per patient.

Natasha carefully documents the quantity, lot number, and expiry date of all medications. She also utilizes compounding logs—similar to recipe cards—to accurately compound medications, ensuring the final product is prepared to the highest standards, and the pharmacy can track what product went to each patient.

This medical grade refrigerator is used to store medications that need to be kept at a cool temperature to maintain their effectiveness and stability.

Pills are stored and catalogued in this area, similar to the organization you would find in a community pharmacy, ensuring easy access and accurate inventory management.

Pills are placed into canisters within these "drawers" and are then automatically dispensed as individual, unit doses for our patients. This automated packager ensures accurate packaging of these products.

Each pack contains a single pill or capsule, providing exactly what each patient needs for a 24-hour period, ensuring accurate dosing and ease of administration.

Welcome to the Dispensary! In this area, our technicians carefully select medications for patients on the inpatient and outpatient units. Once ready, the medications are placed in a cart for secure and timely delivery to the patient care areas.

There are three technician workspaces within the Pharmacy, where our team closely monitors medication requests.

The Receiving Area is where our Stores Department delivers products. Penny, our Inventory Technician, manages the ordering and inventory of medications to ensure we always have the supplies needed for patient care.

This area, known as Non-Sterile Compounding, is where creams, ointments and liquids are carefully prepared by our team to meet the specific needs of our patients.

These automated dispensing cabinets are located on our medical units and securely store medications, providing secure and easy access for healthcare providers to dispense the right medications to patients in those areas.

Our pharmacists are located on the medical units as an integral part of the care team. They review medication orders and discuss therapy options that best suit the patient’s diagnosis and medical history with the physicians. They provide education to patients, and collaborate closely with the nursing team to ensure optimal patient care.
