STEGH Welcomes 11 Medical Students for Discovery Week

Monday, June 2, 2014 - 11:45am to Thursday, June 5, 2014 - 3:45pm

STEGH is once again participating in Discovery Week, a unique learning experience which will see 170 first year medical students from Western University’s Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry spread out to communities throughout Southwestern Ontario to interact with health care professionals and their patients. STEGH will be hosting 11 first year medical students during the week of June 2-6. Students will be participating in various medical rotations at the hospital and throughout the community.

New to this year’s STEGH Discovery Week activities is the involvement of these medical students in a patient storytelling initiative that will help advance patient and family centred care principles and behaviours and ultimately impact the patient experience.

“These medical students will each spend two hours sitting and interviewing a patient to better understand how patient centred care looks and feels to our patients,” says Dr. Whitmore, Vice President and Chief of Staff. “ A series of questions to help guide the interview have been developed so that these medical students can further explore the dimensions of patient and family centred care and how that looks and feels to our patients.” Read More...
