The role of the Diagnostic Imaging Department is to provide patients and physicians with images which will aid in the diagnosis of disease and injury. Images are read by physicians who specialize in radiology and are called radiologists. We are fortunate to have a wide variety of state-of-the-art imaging equipment and are progressing towards a totally filmless department. Radiology services are provided to the citizens of Elgin County and referring physicians.
The Department of Medical Imaging-Radiology is responsible for the coordination of the following within the Hospital:
- Computed Axial Tomography (CAT Scanner)
- Mammography (includes core biopsies)
- Nuclear Medicine (bone mineral density scan)
- Radiology (x-ray)
- Satellite for Ontario Breast Screening Society
- Medical Radiation Technology clinical program affiliated with Fanshawe College - London
Complimentary Functions of the Service
Ultrasound is provided within the the hospital but is not part of the department. It is a private clinic owned and operated by Elgin Radiologist Associates.
