Therapeutic Care Clown Volunteer Program
Overview
Therapeutic humour is recognized as an important component in the healing process, stress management and in gaining an overall sense of well-being.
Purpose
To promote and provide therapeutic humour and comfort as an important part in the care of our patients, their families, and health care providers at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital.
Goals
-
To provide regular visits of care clowns to patients and their families, staff, etc. who desire cheering up, having a laugh or two, having someone to spend some time with, and receiving some stress relief!

To have an organized approach to the screening, training, and appropriateness of care clown visits, working closely with physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals.

To develop and provide a therapeutic care clown course.

To create an avenue to facilitate the exchange of information and resource materials, ideas, and ongoing professional development for care clowns.

To communicate and educate others regarding our program and the therapeutic benefits of humour
