The 57 bed Acute Medical Unit is located on 4th and 5th floors of the hospital. The unit is staffed with RN's, RPN's and Ward Clerks who work together to provide nursing care for patients with the primary medical diagnosis of gastrointestinal disorders, respiratory problems (pneumonia, chronic bronchitis) and cardiovascular disease (Stroke, chest pain and heart failure).
The Acute Medical Unit also works closely with other health professionals and Elgin Community Care Access Centre to provide the best possible care for the patients. The health care team is dedicated to promoting our patients to achieve their maximum possible independence and healthiest lifestyle; during the hospital stay, we assist patients and their families towards this goal. We fully support and encourage patient participation and involvement in decision making at all stages of the hospital stay.
The medical unit receives the majority of it's patients through the Emergency Department.
