 A Lasting Legacy

Planned gifts make health care enhancements a reality.  Such gifts are a way of creating a legacy to ensure the best health care will be available to your children, grandchildren and other loved ones for generations to come.

The opportunity of giving from your assets usually comes after you no longer have need for same.  Besides the joy and personal satisfaction from arranging a planned gift, thoughtful consideration can be given to tax efficiencies, estate and other needs or benefits.  Some planned gifts can be arranged to provide you with an income for life.

By making a planned gift you will have peace of mind knowing your gift is in place for the future.  Thank you for your consideration of STEGH’s health care needs and for being a part of a special group of individuals who are making... a Promise for Tomorrow.

Your gift to the STEGH Foundation is an investment in health care and should bring you great satisfaction, knowing that it will make a lasting difference to the life of your community.

The St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital Foundation recommends that you seek professional financial, legal and estate planning advice before deciding on a course of action.

Please contact the STEGH Foundation at 631-2030 ext. 2727 to obtain more information on how your planned gift can make a lasting difference to the life of your community.

Common Ways To Make Your Gift

  • Will Bequest
  • Life Insurance
  • Charitable Remainder Trust
  • Residual Interest
  • Publicly Traded Securities
  • Gift Plus Annuity

Will Bequest (More Specific Information)

A Will Bequest is the most basic and essential beginning to estate planning.  A well prepared and updated Will can help make sure all reasonable provisions have been looked after so your loved ones are provided for.   Your Will is also a convenient way to make a charitable gift to the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital Foundation.

Your bequest to your community Hospital helps fund health care needs for the future.   In addition, it is a great way to reduce taxes and at the same time leave an enduring legacy.

Dying without a Will (dying "intestate”) means that the distribution of your estate will be determined by the government.  This may not reflect your wishes.   It is also a more costly process for your estate and therefore leaves less to benefit others.

Benefits:

  • Designates who will be your executor,
  • Allows you to make responsible decisions about the distribution of your estate,
  • Provides for the well-being of your loved ones,
  • Appoints guardians for minor children,
  • Makes provision for special remembrances,
  • Gives a gift to a charity that is important to you, such as the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital Foundation,
  • Minimizes final taxes.

There are many ways to arrange a Bequest in your Will such as:

  • A specific dollar amount (often called a legacy),
  • A specific percentage (or share) of your estate or residual amount,
  • A specific asset such as land, investments or personal property,
  • A trust which provides a gift arrangement (often referred to as a testamentary trust).
  • A restricted bequest - a gift to benefit a specific area or need.  Please contact the STEGH Foundation staff to ensure your specific request can be arranged and so that we can provide the proper Restricted Fund name to include in your Will.

The Foundation staff would be pleased to provide samples of specific wording for the type of bequest you are considering in your Will. Please contact the Foundation.

Those who make a bequest through their Will support the ongoing work of the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital Foundation by ensuring quality health care is available to everyone in our community.
