Every patient has the right to:

  • Be treated with compassion, respect and courtesy
  • Have their dignity recognized
  • Have their individuality respected
  • Be free of mental, verbal and physical abuse
  • Be properly sheltered, fed, clothed, groomed, and cared for in a manner consistent with their needs
  • Privacy
  • Live in a safe clean environment
  • Pursue social, cultural, spiritual, religious, educational and leisure interests
  • Be informed of his/her medical condition and participate in making decisions regarding treatment or; in the event of a patient’s inability to do so, he/she has the right to a substitute decision maker
  • Be informed of any hospital rule or policy directly affecting his/her care and of the procedures for initiating complaints
  • Be fully informed about the procedures and the consequences or receiving or refusing
  • Receive assistance towards independence
  • Receive the highest quality of care to ensure that he/she maintains/improves their level of function
  • Have medical records kept confidential
  • Participate in all decisions made concerning future care plans
