People Involved In Your Care

There are a variety of people on your Health Care Team who work together to provide your care. Your feedback is important to us, if you would like to make a comment, compliment or complaint, please speak to your Nurse or the Manager for the area.

Nurses

Registered Nurses (RN) and Registered Practical Nurses (RPN) will be providing care throughout your stay.

Physicians

You will have one Physician in charge of your overall care. This may include your Surgeon, Family Physician, Paediatrician, Obstetrician/Gynaecologist, Internist or Midwife. For patients without a Family Physician with full privileges, we provide specialized Physicians called Hospitalists or Clinical Associates responsible for your in-hospital care. Other Physicians may assist or be consulted during your stay.

South West Community Care Access Centre (SWCCAC) Hospital Case Managers

The SWCCAC Hospital Case Managers are available to assist if you require ongoing support at home after discharge. They may assist with referring to community services, nursing, Meals on Wheels, home respiratory services and provide information about alternate levels of care, respite care, nursing home.

Social Worker

Social workers provide counselling to individuals, families and groups; assist with financial issues, housing, obtaining drug coverage; assistance with Power of Attorney and Substitute Decision Making issues; referral to community resources; information about alternate levels of care; work in collaboration with SWCCAC hospital case manager for discharge planning; and system advocacy. For intake referrals, please call ext. 2130.

Rehabilitation Services

Ten Rehabilitation beds are located on C wing in the Continuing Care Centre (CCC) and provide support to individuals recovering from orthopaedic surgery, stroke or similar conditions. Care is planned and delivered based on goals identified in collaboration with the patient and their family, transitioning back to the highest level of physical independence.

Palliative Care

We provide Palliative Care on both the Acute Medical Unit and the Continuing Care Centre, providing supportive care and expertise for patients who have a diagnosis of a progressive, ongoing life threatening illness. Patient care consists of pain and symptom management and quality of life issues that may require family support, social support and/or spiritual support.

Rehab Supportive Services – Occupational Therapy (OT), Physiotherapy (PT), Speech Language (SL)

 Provides Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech and Recreation Therapy for inpatients who require this assessment and treatment.

Pastoral Care, Ask Your Nurse

Spiritual and religious care is available for all patients and their families. Religious leaders and pastoral visitors are always available. The Chapel is located on the first floor of the main Hospital building. Worship services are held in the ground floor Dining Room of the CCC on Tuesday afternoons at 2:30pm. Everyone is welcome.

Volunteers

We have 200 + Volunteers who provide between 30,000 to 35,000 hours of service each year. Volunteers provide valuable support to patient care and administrative areas. They are identified by blue vests. All volunteers sign an oath of confidentiality and will respect and safeguard your privacy, as do all members of the STEGH team.

Food Service for Patients

STEGH is pleased to offer you an innovative meal service called; At Your Request-Room Service Dining®. The basic premise behind At Your Request- Room Service Dining® is that you, the patient, can order “what you want … when you want it”. You may order any of your meals at anytime between the hours of 7:00am and 5:30pm, 7 days a week. More information can be found on your menu. Family members or friends can place food orders for you from outside the Hospital by calling 519 631-2030 ext. 2800. A representative of Food Service Department will be pleased to visit you if you have any concerns about your menu, or any special dietary or nutritional requirements. Please notify your Nurse and a visit will be arranged. Families may purchase food in the Bluenote Café located in the Atrium on the Ground Floor.
