Goals:
- Ensure ongoing and well rounded expertise on the Board
- Effectively plan for the succession of the Board and Officer positions
Generic capabilities of candidates:
- Understanding of the distinction between the strategic and policy setting role of the Board and the operational responsibilities of management,
- Capability to give leadership to the development of the corporation,
- Commitment to the vision, mission, values and strategic goals of the corporation,
- Ability to work as a member of a team,
- Respect for and tolerance of the views of others,
- Recognition of the time commitment and the willingness to devote the time and energy necessary to perform the role of governor,
- Enthusiasm and capacity for resolving challenging issues.
General Qualities that Strengthen the Board:
- Experience in governance, and specifically "policy governance",
- Experience in strategic planning and goal setting,
- Experience in management of complex organizations,
- Understanding of health policies and system needs, issues and trends,
- Experience in health field,
- Awareness of provincial health care trends,
- Knowledge and experience in business and management,
- Knowledge and experience in financial and /or legal environment,
- Knowledge and experience in human resource management,
- Knowledge and experience in communications and /or information systems technology,
- Knowledge and experience in government and public relations.
