Our Mission

"The Medical Program in collaboration with internal and external partners provides patient centered care for the people of Elgin County, promoting health & wellness, and evaluating outcomes."

Our Program

The Medical Program consists of interrelated services of Acute Medicine and Continuing Care which includes Complex Care and Rehabilitation and MDS Coordinator services.  The program also includes diagnostic and therapeutic services that serve the patients, physicians, and nurses of St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital.  The Supportive Care and Transitional Care beds are also included in this program.

These services support the patient and their family members through the continuum of health and end of life experience.  Patient Centered Care, team functioning and the delivery of service at the point of care are our guiding principles that give direction to our program development.

Nursing staff provide 24 hour patient and family care within a model of cared delivery that supports patient centered care that maximize the scope of professional practice for the Registered Nurse and the Registered Practical Nurse.  Hospital based physicians provide 7 day a week coverage.

Evidence Based Practice and Best Practice Guidelines give direction to our continuous improvement initiatives that support us providing the best medical care in our community.

Skilled professional staff provide excellent diagnostic services in the Laboratory and the Diagnostic Imaging services.  Pharmacists dispense and monitor medications, and ensure the education of patients about their medication requirements.

The Medical Program is responsible for the coordination of the following services within the Health Centre:
