The St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital laboratory medical and technical professionals work with other health care professionals to:
- Ensure that our clients receive the highest quality patient centered care.
- Provide customized care that satisfies the needs of physicians and individual patient requirements in an acute care setting.
- Provide technical and medical support for the diagnosis, monitoring, and screening of hospital outpatients, ambulatory and emergency patients, as well as medical, surgical, obstetric, primary and secondary hospital care patient
The laboratory is part of the hospital’s clinical support program. The opportunity gained by working within hospital programs, is to coordinate laboratory medicine with other health care requirements for best patient outcomes and hospital-wide efficiency.
The Laboratory is responsible for the coordination of the following within St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital:
- Surgical Pathology/Cytology
- Blood Bank
- Microbiology
- Hematology
- Clinical Chemistry
